Qualified and Experienced Staff:

All tutors are interviewed and selected by our highly trained recruitment team who check references, qualifications, current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) status and Prohibition from Teaching status. In addition, staff are supervised and a selection of online lessons observed. This ensures consistent quality, appropriate behaviour and teaching standards.

Fresh Start Direct provides a service to students in school, or for students missing education for any reason, helping them maintain their place in education or preparing them for re-integration into regular or specialist education.

We provide detailed reports and assessments with evidence of the students' work and progress.

Core Subjects

For students requiring additional support with their education. Exam preparation and revision, and one to one support to aid progress in specific subjects.

A program of one or more lessons week, with additional independent study, designed to help students top up their learning.

Exclusion and Out of School

Designed specifically for students who require education following a school exclusion or are struggling to be in school. Each day starts with an online meeting to set work for the day. Work will be completed both independently by the student and also assisted by the Tutor. The Tutor will meet online with the student a further 3 times in the day, to assess the student's work and help them progress.

Blocks of 20, thirty-minute, face to face lessons.

20 lessons per week (10 hours 1:1 time) - plus independent study.

No School Place

For students who have moved to a new area and are awaiting a school place, online learning can help keep them engaged in learning and up to date with subjects, helping to minimise the impact on their education.

A flexible programme that is designed to suit the individual needs of each student, increasing their education opportunities.

School Refusers and School Phobics

This programme is for students suffering high levels of anxiety, or who are temporarily unable to cope with classroom learning.

Session may start with audio only, if required, before moving onto video face to face teaching once a rapport has been built with the student. The Tutor will discuss and provide online work for the student to complete.

This programme is aimed at achieving interaction in person with, where realistic, the goal of reintegration into school or specialist education.

If a student is unable or refuses to engage with our online 1:1 service, you can easily transfer them to Fresh Start in Education Ltd.

We appreciate that sometimes personalities don’t mix. We consider that a good relationship between student and tutor is an essential part of our service. If, for good reason, a student cannot ‘connect’ with their tutor, we will provide a more suitable replacement.

We charge £40.00 plus VAT per lesson of 50 minutes. This is invoiced monthly in arrears, please see our Terms of Business.

We ensure qualifications are genuine, that work history is relevant and accurate, we take references and carry out Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Prohibition from Teaching checks.

Our Safeguarding Policy underpins everything we do, and this is reflected in the rigorous checks we carry out on all our staff.

The student will need a PC, MAC or laptop, with either a built in or separate camera, microphone or headset.

An internet connection with: Upload 1 Mbps, Download 5 Mbps, as a minimum, is required.  A test should be run from the student’s location to ensure these minimum speeds can be achieved.   A compatible and up to date browser will be required; only the following are fully compatible:

  • Google Chrome (version 28 and later versions except iOS)
  • Firefox (version 25.0.1 and later on any device except iOS)
  • Safari on Mac (Mac iOS 10.12 Sierra or later)

Students can work from any location that has access to a PC, some privacy and a good internet connection.

Yes. We can support ESOL students with their learning and overall English proficiency.

We use, for example: past papers, revision guides, standard online resources, student’s own current curriculum resources, ASDAN Short Courses, NCFE courses and any additional materials most suited to the student’s needs.

Using our online Commissioner Portal, you can see when your student starts their lessons, when they end and how engaged they were.  We provide weekly reports on progress, with examples of work completed, and regular reports.

Tutors are aware that we spot check and observe their lessons remotely, without causing any interruption, for quality assurance and safeguarding.

Simply complete the Booking Form to provide the necessary information about the student.  We will then email you to confirm the timetable and the booking of the student’s first 10 lessons.

We have a specially designed online system that enables a tutor and a student to see and hear each other, along with an electronic white board on which they can work together. We have a vast array of resources that our tutors use, selected especially to suit the needs of each student.

All online work is carried out on secure servers meeting Data Protection requirements, that are monitored and supervised.  Only our staff have access to our secure system.

Mathematics, English, Science, Modern Languages, Computing, PSHE, and any subject from the National Curriculum at GCSE and A Level. For students who need a vocational qualification, we also teach Functional Skills and Vocational Courses.
